A Halloween DIY Thrift find/Dollar Tree craft tutorial
Hi friends! I have a Halloween DIY decoration for you that is a thrift flip/Dollar Tree DIY. One of my favorite pastimes is thrift shopping. I always feel like I am on a treasure hunt! I can spend hours searching through shelves to see what goodies might be hidden. You never know what you are going to find and the prices are hard to beat! Life is expensive enough so finding a good deal is always welcome! Now that yard sale season is winding down, it is a good time to check the thrift stores for all of those donated leftover yard sale items that folks just don’t want to deal with. While I was out the other day searching for treasure, I found the cutest glass witch’s cauldron at my local thrift store! The colors were not your typical Halloween black and orange, so I thought it would make a perfect whimsical Halloween DIY decoration. The best part is that it only cost me .50 cents!! That’s right, only .50 cents. How often anymore do you get to buy something for that?! I am really excited to share this Halloween DIY with you, so grab your glue guns and come craft with me!

Step 1:
To start this project off, you will want to take your poster board/cardboard and turn your cauldron upside down on it, trace around the rim, and then cut it out. Now you have a base that will sit on the top of your cauldron. This is what we will be building the “bubbles” part of our cauldron on. The poster board I used was purple. You do not have to use colored poster board however using a color that is similar to your ornaments will help it to blend in. If you are using cardboard you can always add a black coat of paint to it if you need to.
Once you have your poster board circle cut out, take your pencil and poke a hole through the center and feed your fairy lights through the hole you made. This allows you to place the battery pack in the cauldron to hide it.
Step 2:
Now we are ready to start building our cauldron bubbles! To do this, you will want to take one of your mini ornaments and pull the silver hanger off. Then start hot gluing the ornaments around the perimeter of your poster board circle, alternating colors as you go.
Once you have your first round complete, place your lights in and around the ornaments. If needed, you can use your hot glue to tack them down. Once that is done, continue around with your ornaments building the “bubbles” up to a peak. Continue to place your lights around the ornaments as you go. (If this sounds confusing, check out my video tutorial on YouTube. I have included the link at the bottom of the article.)
Once you have this complete you can pop your battery pack into your cauldron and set the bubble topper on your cauldron. The weight of the ornaments will hold your topper down and the battery pack is hidden but easily accessible! Once your topper is on, you can look for any other places you would like to add “bubbles”. I continued the ornaments down the side slightly to give the appearance of the cauldron overflowing. Once you have the ornaments placed in a way that makes you happy, that’s it! This is such a super cute and easy project! I hope you love it as much as I do!
